The Story of Savio, the Young Goat Shepherd

At his birth, Savio's arrival was a surprise.  You see, his brother Japheth had already been born moments before him.  Everyone was joyous at the news of a new boy.  No one expected there was another birth to be celebrated that day!  What a surprise when the young mother said, "I think there is another tom come!" when suddenly there was Savio, a little younger, a little smaller.  The boys father was embraced by the village men, believing it must be a sign from God; only a very special servant of God would be blessed with two boys at once!  The newborn boys were swaddled in soft sheepskin and placed in their mother's arms.

As the twin boys got a little older, Savio was always a little smaller of the two boys - but this did not hinder Savio from his natural born gift of persistence.  He decided at a very young age that whatver Japheth could do, he could do it too.  Laughing at Savio's antics, Japheth said to him. "Little brother, you do not always have to try so hard because you are smaller.  Remember that God does not look upon your size, he looks upon your heart.  If you have a good heart that is all that matters."

Savio decided upon his brother's leaving that if Japheth can shepherd so can he.  With great determination and a strong stick in hand, Savio separather the younger goats, the kids, from their pen and herded them to a nearby meadow of clover.  How delighted the your kids were to be free kicking our theri legs as they ran!  How excited Savio was that her could tend to God's creatures.  He felt like his heart would burst with the joy of such a simple task.

Remembering Japheth's words, Savio said "It is true, though I may be small, God has given me the gift of a good heart and that is all that matters."
